Lighting for Education
Contemporary students complete a greater range of tasks than ever before, and with that they need the optimum in correctly lit environments, so that their learning is best encouraged by well controlled lighting of their facilities. Students and staff require adequate lighting in their tasks throughout the school or college day, including reading and writing, and rooms should be lit correctly, so that supporting tools, such as whiteboards or projector screens can be easily seen and read. Thorn's experience in lighting education establishments, as illustrated below, helps us to help you in providing the best learning environment for today's students.

Quattro LED passes its first examination
New premises built for Netherburn Primary School in Larkhall, Scotland were designed by South Lanarkshire Council to replace the original older building. The new facility will help transform the learning experiences of children, both now and in the years to come. Not unnaturally, the Council required first class lighting - high quality control of the light distribution to ensure good teaching conditions, together with an attractive appearance and economical operation through life.

Like all universities, Aalborg is concerned with cutting energy use as far as possible without reducing the quality of its facilities. Indeed Danish building regulations (Bygningsreglementet) require a reduction in consumption of 10 and 20% from 2006 levels by 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Top class learning facilities call for top class lighting. That’s why Panum Institute, part of Copenhagen University's Faculty of Health Sciences, was one of the earliest customers for the Base LED downlight. It was felt that the downlight’s low running costs would help reduce operating and maintenance costs, while the excellent colour rendering of the light source (Ra 94) would retain the standard produced by the old lighting.
