New Doha International Airport

Duoproof and ImpactForce for inflight catering facility at New Doha International Airport

When the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) at Qatar opens in 2012 it will set new standards in airport and airline efficiency, passenger convenience and service levels. Thorn Lighting MENA Region has supplied more than 3,700 Duoproof and ImpactForce proof luminaires for the Package 21 - Catering Facility. When fully in operation, the 65,000m², three-story building will be one of the world's largest in-flight catering facilities, housing airline meal production, an advanced cart transport system; cold rooms and refrigeration areas, and even a food laboratory.

Correct lighting was of supreme importance to achieve the highest standards of food safety and hygiene and to create comfortable, well-lit conditions for round-the-clock working.

The Duoproof and ImpactForce fluorescent luminaires are ideal for this kind of specialised lighting, being sealed to IP65 and certified for use in food processing areas from a hygiene point of view (HACCP/IFS/BRC Standard). Both designs result in reliable, low maintenance and economical operation.

Thorn has also supplied hundreds of Voyager, Aquaforce and Quattro C luminaires.

Mahesh Harangi, regional manager for Thorn Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, said: “At first only two Thorn products were specified out of 22. However, our pro-active approach in improving quality and taking care of the project’s requirements awarded us the complete job”.
