Quattro LED acclaimed for energy saving

LED lighting has taken over from fluorescent at the Conseil Général de Seine Maritime building in Rouen, France. Thorn’s new recessed lay-in luminaire, Quattro LED, specially designed for offices and incorporating 48W LEDs, has been used to replace, point-for- point, 10-year-old fluorescent louvred fittings with 4x18W T8 lamps. The 750 energy-saving luminaires also provide better comfort and a totally different aesthetic. In fact, 99.99% of workers prefer the new lighting, only one person out of hundreds didn’t like it, and that was simply a matter of personal preference rather than something more substantial.

There are further savings still to come on energy costs as the luminaires are linked in groups, four per office, to presence detectors.

Faced with drastically increased electricity tariffs and EU carbon reduction targets, local authorities have been looking for some time for cost effective and convenient alternatives to the T8 and T5 fluorescent lamps usually used for office lighting. With the advent of the Quattro LED, they now have this alternative. The solid state luminaire emits a comparable amount of light to a typical 4x18W T8 recessed modular fluorescent with magnetic gear for 45% less energy consumption.
