Vieux Port Tunnel, Marseille
Thorn wins Marseille tunnel contract
There’s a new look to the Vieux Port Tunnel in Marseille coming along soon, and it’s all down to new lighting. The Infrastructure Branch of the Marseille Provence Métropole (MPM) has awarded Thorn the contract to refurbish the 600m long immersed tunnel with 759 high output Gotthard fluorescent luminaires – in wattage ratings of 55W, single and twin.  The majority are dimmable.

Farsund by-pass, Norway
Working in association with Otera Samferdsel AS, Thorn’s Gotthard and Civic luminaires are lighting the way across the new Farsund city by-pass, which includes three roundabouts, a 2.3km road, a 350m tunnel and a 1.6km walking and cycling path. The new by-pass was built to relieve the city of the constant flow of heavy north and south bound through-traffic.

Perth-Bunbury Highway, Australia
Thorn has completed what is believed to be the biggest highway lighting scheme ever undertaken in West Australian (WA) history. The new Perth-Bunbury Highway, opened by WA Premier Colin Barnett on 20th September, will bring the State’s South-West Region significantly closer to metropolitan Perth, to the benefit of daily commuters and tourists. It covers 71 km of dual carriageway and 32km of adjacent shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Telea cuts energy costs for Norwegian Road Authority with 30% saving
Radio frequency (RF) has become an increasingly popular method of controlling road lighting, particularly where energy savings and flexibility are required. In place of a photocell, an RF controller is fitted into the road lantern so that instructions are transmitted wirelessly to a base station (typically mounted in a nearby switch cabinet) and central management server.

Öresund Bridge and Malmö CityTunnel
Double Take
The Öresund Bridge spans the narrow stretch of sea between Denmark and Sweden, connecting the cities of Copenhagen and Malmö by road and rail. In autumn 2008, eight years after it opened, it was decided to replace the aged, deteriorated road lighting. The bridge’s management authority chose Thorn Victor lanterns for their lighting performance and ability to better withstand the marine environment.

Norrortsleden Highway
The Norrortsleden highway was built to provide a fast and easily accessible route for commuters along the northern-suburbs of Stockholm. New and safe highways require high-performance lighting that saves energy. The Swedish Road Administration therefore decided on some 600 Civic road lanterns.

On the move
One of the largest infrastructure projects ever constructed in the UAE features tunnel lanterns from Thorn. Dubai’s newest multi-tier flyover complex consists of 11 bridges and one underpass and replaces a busy roundabout junction within the Arabian Ranches Interchange.
