Working in association with Otera Samferdsel AS, Thorn’s Gotthard and Civic luminaires are lighting the way across the new Farsund city by-pass, which includes three roundabouts, a 2.3km road, a 350m tunnel and a 1.6km walking and cycling path. The new by-pass was built to relieve the city of the constant flow of heavy north and south bound through-traffic.

On 12 May 2011 officials from Thorn and LUCI, an international network of cities on urban lighting, joined Palestinian West Bank authorities and members of the City of Lyon to inaugurate the illumination of Hisham’s Palace in Jericho, a scheme implemented within the framework of the LightLinks project, an urban lighting initiative devised by Thorn and LUCI.

Thorn Lighting today announced proposals to relocate its UK headquarters from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire to the award winning Thorn plant in Spennymoor, County Durham, which houses 500 staff. The move is designed to improve service levels for Thorn's customers and sales force alike.

The Borough of Mäder in western Austria has cut its energy consumption on road lighting by 49 per cent while simultaneously improving illumination levels. This startling information is revealed by the Borough’s Mayor, Rainer Siegele, in Thorn’s road lighting microsite. The ‘Energy Management and Innovation in Lighting Award Scheme’, reinstated by the Lighting Industry Federation after an absence of 18 years, are recognised as the premier energy-efficiency awards for the UK lighting industry. The winning schemes were announced on 19th May at the Federations’ AGM in London.
