Thorn clears up at NICEIC awards

Orus, the new low level road luminaire wins best electrical product innovation, and lighting project ‘Living Lights’ wins best UK lighting initiative. Orus, a new breakthrough in road lighting, proved the driving force as Thorn led the winners at the NICEIC's 50th Anniversary and Electrical Industry Awards Gala Dinner in London on 20th September 2006, taking two prizes. The new low level road luminaire won best electrical product innovation, and lighting project ‘Living Lights’ won best UK lighting initiative.

The awards were presented to the winners by leading BBC broadcaster Jeremy Vine, in front of a packed audience of over 1,000 high profile people within the UK electrical engineering, contracting and power markets, receiving a glass trophy as their prize. The categories were chosen to reflect the great and the good of the electrical industry, and to celebrate 50 years of the NICEIC, the regulatory body covering the UK electrical market.

Hugh King, PR manager at Thorn said: "We’re absolutely delighted to be double winners, especially in the Innovation category which covers all electrical disciplines - we're still shell-shocked! It is a great acknowledgement for the work we do, lighting people and places, and a testament to all our employees hard work."

Living Lights, an extraordinary project which has allowed the young people of Stoke-on-Trent a unique insight into the power and potential of lighting, also gained first place in the lighting category of The Street Design Awards 2006, a national contest in the UK run by ‘Local Government News’ to reward innovation by local authorities.
