Lighting for Healthcare: A practical guide

Lighting for Healthcare Brochure [PDF/5MB]

The 52-page Lighting for Healthcare brochure, published in July 2010, is the third in a series of practical application guides for lighting professionals from Thorn (the others being education and road lighting). Easy to read and straight forward, it aims to equip end users, consultants and specifiers of lighting with the knowledge needed to provide good quality lighting. Sections cover sustainability, lighting controls, emergency lighting, luminaires, light sources, principle codes and regulations, illuminance recommendations and actual solutions.

The guide divides a typical healthcare building into eight zones, one per chapter, from the entrance/waiting area to the car park. Throughout, advice is specific to the different areas and the challenges therein. A short list of suitable luminaire types will be found for each application zone.

Readers will soon appreciate the significant impact that lighting can make on patient health and well-being; understand the contribution that Thorn’s performance, efficiency and comfort (PEC) programme can make to good lighting and be able to select lighting techniques and equipment which fulfils their design requirements without making excessive energy demands.

It is hoped that the new brochure will find a place not only on the shelves but constantly in the hands of all those concerned with healthcare lighting.
