Cruz LED

2,000 lumen LED downlight

Thorn has developed a high-lumen output LED version of its already successful Cruz downlight – an important step which, according to the company’s product manager, Hans-Georg Schmidt, will completely change people’s thinking about general lighting. The new downlight outperforms compact fluorescent (CFL) in terms of energy efficiency and quality of light from a third smaller aperture. In two colour versions – 3000K and 4000K – the units produce 2,000 lumens, with only 6% optical losses. Operating at 37W and 34W respectively, with a system efficacy of up to 55 lm/watt, they are comparable with a 2 x 26W CFL downlight.    The use of a remote yellow phosphor lens within a sophisticated optic gives glare-free light (UGR < 19) with consistent colour performance (Ra ≥80).

It’s silent active cooling technology, wherby a rapid oscillating membrane pulses turbulent air across the LED module’s cooling fins, combats any conductive heat issues associated with using high power LEDs indoors.

Cruz LED is DALI dimmable and delivers 100% instant light with a rated life
of 50,000 hours (70% lumen maintenance), which is five times that of a CFL.

“What the Cruz LED does”, says Schmidt, “is open up a whole new range of possibilities for commercial and retail lighting. Previously LEDs were mainly used indoors for localised lighting, such as corridors or areas with low ceilings. The new ratings make solid-state lighting a viable alternative for those seeking smaller, more elegant alternatives to compact fluorescent in general spaces.”

A patented ‘sec-lock’ holding arm facilitates a fast tool-free connection, thus saving contractors time and cost. There are also three attachments, ranging from the frosted glass ring to an IP54 glass or anti-harm cover. Bezels are white, chrome or grey.

Complementary emergency lighting can be provided using Voyager LED modules.
