7.1 Life Cycle Analysis [PDF/45KB]
When installing new lighting, or refurbishing an existing scheme, it is important to quantify and compare the benefits of possible alternative replacement lighting systems. These benefits are quantified in terms of a life cycle calculation for each lighting system, that is over the planned life of the installation how much will each system cost. These values can be compared and the most favourable option chosen.
7.1a Worksheet [XLS/20KB]
Worksheet 7.1 aids life cycle analysis.
7.2 Economics [PDF/46KB]
When refurbishing an existing installation it is important to be able to quantify the benefits of the new lighting system compared with the existing system. These benefits are quantified in terms of the payback period. This is a comparison of the expenditure in terms of investment costs to buy and install a new system, compared with the savings in annual operating costs through having the new system.
7.2a Worksheet  [XLS/20KB]
Worksheet 7.2 aids in the calculation of the pay-back period of a proposed project.
7.3 Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator (LENI) [PDF/72KB]
It is becoming increasingly important to estimate the energy requirements of lighting in buildings and to quantify these requirements against best practice. To help, the EN 15193 document has been produced, which introduces the Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator (LENI). The document also provides guidance with notional limits derived from reference standards.
7.3a Worksheet  [XLS/19KB]
Worksheet 7.3 helps in the calculation of the LENI value.
