The challenge
Streparava Group is an internationally renowned Italian business that makes systems and components for large vehicles and machinery.
The company was looking for a solution that could help it improve energy efficiency, pursue its sustainability goals, and provide better light for staff in its offices, production areas and R&D facilities in Lombardy, northern Italy.
Streparava worked with Thorn to refurbish the lighting. The project began with energy management specialist Eos analysing all areas of the company’s operations to devise the most energy-efficient solution.
In its production areas, Streparava chose to install more than 300 units of Thorn’s FlexPak high bay, in three different lumen output versions, positioned around the edges and in the centre of each space to create diffuse, even light, resulting in almost complete elimination of shadows.
To illuminate the management centre and offices, 172 of Thorn’s Beta ceiling panels have been used. The improved quality of light supports employees’ wellbeing from when they arrive in the morning to when they leave in the evening.
In R&D areas and Streparava’s state-of-the-art testing centre, where employees need to study objects closely and adapt to differences in contrast, the lighting design creates optimal visual conditions, minimising shadows and preventing eye strain.
Outdoor areas required careful attention because of the size and layout of the spaces to be lit. The project also took into account the road system, in order to guarantee high visibility of moving vehicles. Thorn’s Areaflood Pro area luminaire uses precision optics to combine optimal visibility with respect for the surroundings. A total of 69 Areaflood Pro units were installed, in three different sizes.
The result
Streparava has benefited from Thorn’s years of research on workplace lighting and how light can put employees at ease, help them concentrate on their work, and boost motivation. The new lighting creates a productive and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors, as well as supporting the company’s sustainability aims.
