Challenge
Marieholmstunneln - the first piece in the infrastructure puzzle
The Marieholm tunnel, which forms part of the Marieholm connection, is a 500 meter long road tunnel under the Göta River that connects the E20, E6, E45 and Lundbyleden. With the Marieholm connection, the first piece of the future major traffic puzzle in Gothenburg will be laid. A series of investments in public transport, railways and roads until the year 2028 to create an attractive and sustainably growing region.
The big challenge has been to minimize the impact and at the same time build such a technically advanced project in dense traffic.
Lighting solution
In the project, we are proud to have delivered Thorn GTLED, a tunnel luminaire with advanced LED technology for very corrosive and demanding environments. Counterbeam optics are used in the tunnel's entrance and transition zones. In the inner zone, a bi-symmetrical optic is used in a linear configuration throughout the tunnel, which provides perfect smoothness.
The solution provides light levels in a range from 200 cd / m2 during the day at the entrance zone, and down to 2.5 cd / m2 at night. The lighting levels in the tunnel are adapted to the daylight conditions. Visually impaired glare (TI), an important criterion for tunnel lighting, shows an extra low value and is only 2-3% for the plant.
Fino, a linear and discreet luminaire from acdc which is easily integrated into the architecture, provides a nicely colored light.
GTLED is designed to last for many years in corrosive environments. The luminaire also has an innovative mounting system made of stainless steel. GTLED PRO is a product designed with the utmost care, with road safety in mind every step of the way.
Result
The new tunnel lighting is very efficient, provides safe and comfortable conditions for car drivers and can be used for a long time without the need for maintenance. It is an excellent example of what can be achieved with the specialized products, solutions and subject knowledge from Thorn.
