The renovation and refurbishment of old public lighting is not only matter of reducing electrical power consumption to increase energy savings, it can also have a huge impact on the environment. Residents' quality of life, improved safety, durability of installation and ambient friendly lighting are just some of the reasons that lead to the types of projects called „Public Private Partnerships“.

This refers to special contracts between the municipality as a public investor and a company that provides materials and services as a private partner in order to achieve energy savings during a long-term period, for example,10-15 years. Not every company can qualify for these projects. On the one hand, it requires the private company's to provide energy savings calculations and financial calculations for the entire project. On the other hand, the manufacturer of the luminaires has to deliver reliable and high-quality equipment with best performance during a determined period that will fulfill required lighting tasks and cost savings.

One of these projects that Zumtobel Group Serbia had the opportunity to deliver was in thecity of Kikinda. Kikinda, with around 38.000 inhabitants in its urban area is situated in the North Banat district of Serbia. We are very proud to say that our partners „Smart Energy Investment Kft“ helped make this project possible and together we were the winning team on the public tender.

So what did the refurbishment project of public lighting in Kikinda and surrounding villages Idjos and Nakovo look like?:

💡 7.606 luminaires mostly produced in Serbia

Savings of 3.484.295,18 kWh/year (75%)

💭Reduction of CO2 emissions by more than 1.846,68 t/year (75%)

💵Direct financial savings of a minimum of EUR 31.458,35/year.

Thorn Lighting was able to fulfil the requirements and provide right light for places, people and the environment. Thorn's ISARO luminaire for road lighting with 3000 K LEDs was dominant in this project.  ISARO is produced entirely in Zumtobel Group's Niš factory in South Serbia together with VOLUPTO and AERIE SLIM luminaires used for residential areas and parks.
